A handful of properties in the Kamloops area were experiencing power outages on Wednesday morning, as a result of a significant windstorm overnight that wreaked havoc on the province’s electrical system.
BC Hydro is reporting 100,000 customers without power in the Lower Mainland, on Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands and in the Southern Interior, including dozens of customers in and around Kamloops.
BC Hydro’s outage map showed on Wednesday morning an investigation underway on East Shuswap Road. Areas also impacted include: Lac Le Jeune, Pritchard and Monte Lake. BC Hydro said as a windstorm moved across the province, it has been causing “extensive damage” to BC Hydro’s electrical system, due to branches and trees breaking and making contact with its equipment.
Reports have also been received of downed power lines. BC Hydro said repair work is underway to restore power to the affected properties.
