With video: Crews battling wildfire near Whitecroft and Sun Peaks

Whitecroft is the community at the base of the mountain as one begins the climb on the road into Sun Peaks.

A fire west of the community of Whitecroft, near Sun Peaks, is growing as of Saturday (July 10).

According to the BC Wildfire Service , the fire was sparked on July 9 by as yet unknown causes. At last report, it was estimated at .20 hectares in size and classified as out of control, though it appears from the billowing smoke that the fire is larger than that last estimate.

The fire is near Whitecroft, the community at the base of the mountain as one begins the climb on the road into Sun Peaks.

The BC Wildfire Service and Sun Peaks Fire Department are responding.

There have been 787 wildfires in British Columbia so far this season, 330 of those fires started within the last week.
