Work underway on Valleyview corridor

Traffic improvements in the Valleyview corridor total about $350,000 and are expected to improve safety and reduce traffic delays, according to the Ministry of Transportation.

Work in the area has been occurring this week, spearheaded by the province in partnership with the city and CP Rail.

In a statement, the ministry said the project scope includes upgrading infrastructure at six intersections. The first three intersections, located at Oriole Road, Highland Road and Orchards Walk, were completed last year.

This week, work has been underway on new traffic controllers at Vicars Road, Tanager Drive and River Road. The ministry said the project will ensure the signal controllers comply with the latest Transport Canada rail-crossing standards. In addition to the signal upgrades, improvements also include advance warning lights and corridor street illumination upgrades.

“As we upgrade to newer traffic signal controllers, the ministry is expecting improved safety and reduced traffic delays through the corridor,” the ministry statement reads. “In addition to the safety benefits associated with reduced traffic congestion and delays, the new signal controllers have increased safety measures incorporated with the interaction between the highway signals and the adjacent CP Rail crossings.”
