Letter: Class 5 license is no barrier to ride-hailing drivers

Re: KTW’s article of July 10 (‘Many questions over ride-hailing in B.C.’):

Yes, requiring a Class 4 licence is a barrier. So is requiring a Class 5 licence.

Neither is much of a barrier. I have a Class 4 licence. It really does not take very much to get one, but I found it very useful to study driving material again. I think I am a better driver as a result.

Any driver with a licence above Class 5 is subject to having medical and eye exams every couple of years.

It might be nice to know that your driver is healthy.

Far from wanting to make things easier, I am for making it a bit tougher.

A road test every five years might be a good idea for all classes of licences including Class 5.
