Re: Linda Davidson’s letter of Aug. 25 ('Did Kamloops MP, Conservative candidate vote to officially recognize climate change?'):

To answer her question — yes, I believe in climate change and that it has contributed to warmer temperatures locally. I also believe that warmer temperatures have contributed to regional wildfires.

I am sorry Davidson experienced the wildfire threat so close to home. I’ve heard from others who also said it was a terrifying night on Canada Day when flames came close to homes in Juniper Ridge and Valleyview.

I recently met with residents of Monte Lake and saw the destruction of the fires and heard what they need to rebuild. If elected, I will fight for federal funds to rebuild the community.

A Conservative government will invest in remote sensing and other technology that will improve the early detection of wildfires and better predict fire behaviour.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the first responders and firefighters for their work responding to wildfires throughout our region and province.
