Letter: COVID-19 vaccines are not without their risks

Whatever happened to “be kind, be calm and stay safe,” provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry’s mantra throughout 2020? It has now been replaced with “no vaccine equals no recreation, no vacation, no eating out or no job.”

Re: The Oct. 27 KTW story on the vaccine mandate stances of Kamloops Coun. Denis Walsh and Cache Creek Mayor Santo Talarico (‘The vaccine mandate debate’):

I agree with Walsh regarding his objection to this draconian vaccine mandate being rolled out worldwide.

Government officials are now planning to go after the children, too, despite the fact children usually don’t suffer serious ill health from SARS COVID-2 and they don’t seem to spread it, either.

The COVID-19 vaccines are not without risk, as there have been deaths and injuries reported from their administration.

I also find the efficacy of these vaccines to be suspect because of the number of fully vaccinated people in hospital and the number of fully vaccinated people dying from the disease.

And whatever happened to “be kind, be calm and stay safe,” provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry’s mantra throughout 2020? It has now been replaced with “no vaccine equals no recreation, no vacation, no eating out or no job.”

I distinctly remember B.C.’s NDP government telling us in early 2020 that herd immunity was a good approach. Now it seems herd immunity has been sidelined in favour of vaccination mandates.
