Re: KTW’s story of Oct. 27 regarding the fact Kamloops Coun. Denis Walsh is unvaccinated against COVID-19 and will not be receiving a shot (‘The vaccine mandate debate’):

It is unfortunate that a community leader like Walsh would help to undermine the effort to get out of this pandemic mess by refusing to get vaccinated.

He disputes the evidence that the best way is for as many people as possible to get the shot.

Two of the reasons Walsh gives for not getting vaccinated are that he is immune to the COVID-19 virus because he contracted the disease in the past and that he has an underlying health condition.

Walsh might think he is safe, but many unvaccinated people are not safe. More than five-million people in the world have now died of COVID-19. Most of those were unvaccinated or had underlying health conditions.

Walsh is also against being vaccinated because of the unknown long-term effects of the vaccines, but what about the long-term effects of falling severely ill from the disease — or dying because of it?

Even if Walsh continues to choose to leave himself at risk, I hope he will broaden his position, and his leadership influence, to at least encourage other people to think about getting the shot. It might save someone’s life.
