Letter: Students need to respect their teachers

Re: KTW’s article of Feb. 24 regarding a NorKam student being sent out of class due to the outfit she was wearing (‘Is this outfit inappropriate for a Kamloops classroom?’)

It utterly ridiculous how kids speak back today, with no respect. They are not happy unless they are dressing like Madonna or Brittney Spears, from where they learn this fashion, and those are not exactly proper role models for impressionable young girls.

The sad part is that parents should know better and aren't teaching their kids right from wrong and passing down morals and ethics.

I get that women have been oppressed and all the other excuses I have read as to why people support the Kamloops student, but don't forget it wasn't long ago women wore those exact same patterns as slips. If they truly did not know this was an undergarment or aren't of the age to have seen a Sears catalogue, then that is even more reason why they should be listening to their teachers, not protesting.

When I was young, the kids who undertook such mischief were the ones who later turned out horribly. I am afraid for our future with these kids and their attitudes. The proper response from the student would have been, “I am sorry and will not do it again.”

But you can't even correct someone today without backlash.
