Editor:
Congratulations to Kamloops This Week and reporter Jessica Wallace for the articles on the spending habits of former Thompson-Nicola Regional District CAO Sukh Gill.
The information was well-researched and detailed. I re-read it several times, as it is a lot to take in. Gill’s practice of questionable spending of taxpayers’ funds was not really “a spree,” but rather years of gross misuse of funds and abuse of privilege. There was also a great sense of entitlement by others.
The TNRD board, although unaware of the totality of Gill’s spending practices, must have had a real sense that the extravagant wining, dining, elaborate gift-giving and innumerable coffee shop visits, etc. were not how our tax money was meant to be spent.
There were years of excessive spending.
Upon reflection, I am led to believe we must be contributing too generously to the TNRD tax fund. Possibly a reduction in our taxes would be appropriate?
I believe the TNRD board has an enormous task to review its mandate and get its affairs in order.
Thanks again, Kamloops This Week, for bringing this to our attention.
I do realize that without a local newapaper, the saga of Gill and the TNRD’s board would not have been brought to our attention. Could it be that Pandora’s Box has been opened?
