Connor Zary’s fantastic season continued on Saturday at Sandman Centre, where the Kamloops Blazers earned a 4-1 victory over the Portland Winterhawks on Teddy Bear toss night.
Zary cued the stuffed-animal throwing with a power-play goal at 10:57 of the first period, his 19th goal of the WHL season.
Orrin Centazzo, Ryan Hughes and Dylan Kuefler also scored for Kamloops in support of goaltender Dylan Garand, who made 30 saves in a winning effort.
Kuefler’s marker was the first goal of his WHL career. Ethan Brandwood picked up an assist on the goal, the first point of his WHL career.
Joel Hofer stopped 42 shots from Portland. Reece Newark ended Garand’s shutout bid at 17:46 of the third period.
The Winterhawks (16-7-1-2) edged the hometown Blazers 2-1 in a shootout on Friday.
B.C. Division-leading Kamloops (18-9-0-1) will begin a six-game tour of the East Division against Brandon on Dec. 6.
The Blazers will play next at Sandman Centre on Dec. 28 against Everett.
