Canoe and Kayak club off to good start

The Kamloops Canoe and Kayak Club kicked its season into gear at the Slawko Fedechko Season Opener Regatta on Wonnek Lake in Maple Ridge on the weekend (Saturday, May 14, and Sunday, May 15). Paddlers from three clubs in the U.S. and five from B.C.

Paddlers from three clubs in the U.S. and five from B.C. raced in sprint canoes and kayaks.

Keiffer Johnson finished first in the midget and open men's C1 and C2 200- and 500-metre finals.

He also placed third in the midget K2 200-metre final.

Brook Mclean finished first in the midget C1 200-metre and second in the C1 500-metre.

She also finished second in the open women`s C1 200-metre and third in the midget K1 200- and 500-metre races.

Zack Morgan placed third in the midget C1 200-metre, first in the C2 200-metre, third in the C1 500-metre and first in the C2 500-metre.

Jacob Huth placed fourth in a midget C1 200-metre heat.

The event marked the beginning of the racing season, which will be highlighted by the Western Canada Summer Games.

Paddlers from the club are preparing for the Games' trials, which happen in June.
