Forward Loewen drafted by Dallas Stars

The Blazers’ Jermaine Loewen has been drafted by the NHL’s Dallas Stars.

The 6-foot-4, 221-pound forward was selected in the seventh round, picked 199th overall, and has become the first Jamaican-born player to be drafted into the NHL.

Loewen, 20, didn't have a traditional path to the NHL. He was already passed on twice in the draft. This year, he knew that if he was picked, it'd be in the later rounds due to his age — something he told KTW he understands.

Loewen led the the Blazers in points (64) and goals (36) last year in his 66 games played.
