TRU WolfPack forward James Fraser was on Wednesday named U Sports athlete of the week for the period ending on Sunday, Sept. 19.
He scored two pivotal goals against the UBC Okanagan Heat in Kelowna, including a 90th-minute header in a 2-1 victory on Saturday and TRU’s only goal in a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
"It's an honour, something that I can look back on when I'm all done here," Fraser, a Penticton product, told TRU Sports Information. "But I don't let these awards get in my head too much. I know that there's a lot more room for improvement from me and, hopefully, this isn't the last time this season that it happens."
The U SPORTS athlete of the week nod is the second of Fraser's career and marks the third time a member of the Pack has claimed the award. WolfPack women’s volleyball standout Iuliia Pakhomenko did it first in 2016-2017 and Fraser followed in 2019-2020.
The WolfPack (1-0-3) and West Division-leading Victoria Vikes (2-0-2) will square off this weekend on Vancouver Island in a clash of the undefeated.
