Kamloops Blazers sweep weekend games against Kelowna Rockets to wrap pre-season

The Kamloops Blazers capped the WHL pre-season with a pair of weekend victories over the Kelowna Rockets to finish the exhibition slate without a loss in regulation.

The Kamloops Blazers capped the WHL pre-season with a pair of weekend victories over the Kelowna Rockets to finish the exhibition slate without a loss in regulation.

Kamloops edged hometown Kelowna 4-3 on Saturday and doubled the visiting Rockets 4-2 on Friday.

Nick McCarry, an overager listed by the Blazers in June, led the Blazers in scoring in the pre-season, with nine points, including four goals, in five games.

Matthew Seminoff and Fraser Minten, both 17, led Kamloops in goal scoring in exhibition play, with five goals apiece.

Blazers’ netminder Dylan Ernst, 17, played parts of four games in the pre-season, posting a 3-0 record, 3.64 goals-against average and .867 save percentage.

The Cougars were the only club to earn a victory over the Blazers in the pre-season, a 7-6 shootout win on Sept. 18 in Prince George.

Kamloops is slated to play its first regular season game on Saturday Oct. 2, against the Cougars in Prince George.

The Blazers’ home opener is slated for Saturday, Oct. 9, when the Cougars come to town. Game time is 7 p.m. at Sandman Centre.
