Zach Morgan and Alex Demishkevich of the Kamloops Canoe and Kayak Club (KCKC) have qualified to compete for Team B.C. at the Western Canada Summer Games (WCSG), which will be held in Wood Buffalo, Alta., from Aug. 7 to Aug. 16.
The WCSG trials were held in conjunction with B.C. Cup No. 1 in Burnaby on Sunday.
Morgan finished first and Demishkevich was third in both the men's C1 1,000-metre and men's C1 200-m events.
There were 14 members of the KCKC in action on Sunday.
Complete results are listed below.
The club is hosting an open house at Shumway Lake on Saturday, an opportunity for children ages six to 11 to participate in free introductory sessions to flat-water canoeing and kayaking.
There are two sessions to choose from — 10 a.m. to noon or 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
On June 13, the KCKC is hosting a paddle-a-thon. Last year, 17 paddlers travelled 342 kilometres to raise $4,000.
Head coach Stan Marek would like to improve on that number.
