The 2017 paddling season is underway.
Clubs in Burnaby and Maple Ridge played host to the first two regattas of the year, with 12 paddlers from the Kamloops Canoe and Kayak Club (KCKC) combining to bring home 17 medals.
Vladimir Demishkevic was first in the under-13 K1 6,000-metre race and second in the 2,000m, just ahead of teammate Jonas Decker.
Alex Demishkevic claimed the open C1 2,000m title.
The under-17 K4 team -- Matao Buist, Stanley Netherton, Spencer Robinson and Aiden Tabata -- won the 200m and 500m races.
Robinson also won bronze in four solo kayak races -- 200m, 500m, 6,000m and 10,000m.
In addition, he won three medals in team boats.
