Kamloops Storm open season with loss

The visiting Golden Rockets won 3-1. Kamloops will host Chase on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Memorial Arena

The Golden Rockets jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on for a 3-1 win in Kamloops on Friday night in what was the Storm’s Kootenay International Junior Hockey League regular season opener.

The Rockets outshot the Storm 29-19 en route to the win at Memorial Arena.

Golden took a 3-0 lead into the third period behind goals from Colton Hutchinson, Gunnar Keith and Jacob Dewar. Kamloops’ lone goal, at the mid-point of the third period, came from Yewta Plamondon, with assists to Therann Kincross and Brody Johnston.

Golden goalie Brandon Weare started the game and turned aside 17 of 18 shots, while Jonah Chambers faced, and saved, one shot.

In the Storm crease, Jakob Drapeau stopped 26 of 29 shots he faced.

Kamloops returns to the ice on Saturday night when the Chase Heat visit the Storm for a 7 p.m. game at Memorial Arena. Chase opened the season on Friday with a 3-2 loss to the visiting North Okanagan Knights.
