Olynyk of Kamloops traded to Houston Rockets from Miami Heat

Kelly Olynyk was traded to the Houston Rockets on Thursday.

Olynyk, the 7-foot forward from Kamloops, guard Avery Bradley and a first-round pick in the 2022 NBA Draft were dealt from the Miami Heat to the Rockets in exchange for guard Victor Oladipo.

The South Kamloops secondary graduate is in the final year of a four-year, $50 million contract he signed with Miami in the summer of 2017.

Olynyk is averaging 10 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists through 43 games this season.

The Dallas Mavericks picked Olynyk 13th overall in the 2013 NBA Draft and traded him on the same day to the Boston Celtics.

Olynyk toiled for the Celtics from 2013-2014 to 2016-2017 and was traded to the Heat in time for the 2017-2018 campaign.

The Rockets are 12-31 on the season and sit second-last in the Western Conference.

Oladipo, who's averaging 20.8 points, five rebounds and 4.7 assists this season, joins a Heat team that is 22-22 and fifth in the Eastern Conference.
