The return of B.C. Football Conference action to Hillside Stadium has once again been postponed.

Kamloops Broncos’ general manager Jan Antons told KTW that his club’s Saturday, Aug. 28, contest against the Okanagan Sun of Kelowna has been postponed, with COVID-19-related travel recommendations and gathering size limitations in the Interior and Central Okanagan pre-empting the Week 1 contest.

The game was originally scheduled to be played in Kelowna, but earlier this month, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reinstated a number of public health orders for the Central Okanagan area.

Travel to and from the Central Okanagan for non-essential purposes was discouraged. No more than 100 people are permitted to gather outdoors.

Antons said the plan was to play the game in Kamloops this Saturday until restrictions introduced in the Central Okanagan earlier this summer were expanded to the entire Interior Health Region over the past few days.

Liability concerns pertaining to travel and the spread of COVID-19 are reason to proceed with caution, Antons said.

He said his club is awaiting further instruction from Henry, viaSport and the B.C. Provincial Football Association before determining whether a Week 2 contest against the Valley Huskers in Chilliwack can be played on Sept. 11.
