The senior South Kamloops Titans’ first regular season football contest in nearly two years ended in defeat.
Rutland knocked off South Kam 35-13 on Friday in B.C. Secondary Schools Football Association action at Hillside Stadium.
Titans’ running back Deegan Falsetta compiled 62 yards rushing, 12 yards receiving and returned a kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown.
Ashton Yamaoka caught a 45-yard touchdown pass from South Kamloops quarterback Jesse Peters, who completed six of 12 passes for 98 yards.
Marcus Crawford booted one extra point.
Jakob Kies and Kai Yamaoka racked up 12 tackles each on defence. Kurtis Pearson and Mitch Landry snared one interception apiece.
Toryn Fraser forced two fumbles and Cooper MacLeod recovered one fumble.
The AA Titans are toiling this season in the hybrid AA/AAA division, along with AAA Rutland, AAA Mt. Boucherie of Kelowna, AAA Okanagan Mission of Kelowna, AAA Salmon Arm and AA Vernon.
South Kam (0-1) will play next on Oct. 8 against hometown Salmon Arm, a 6 p.m. start at Little Mountain Sports Complex.
