South Kamloops Titans win Okanagan AA senior boys rugby title

The 39-22 victory over provincially ninth-ranked Clarence Fulton of Vernon means the Titans have qualified for the provincial championship, which will take place from May 29 to June 1 at Abbotsford’s Rotary Park

The South Kamloops Titans senior boys' rugby team captured the Okanagan AA title on Thursday with a 39-22 victory over the visiting Clarence Fulton Maroons of Vernon.

The win at Exhibition Park means South Kamloops has qualified for the provincial championship, which will take place from May 29 to June 1 at Abbotsford’s Rotary Park.

South Kam led Fulton 10-0 at the half and extended that margin to 15-0 early in the second half before having to withstand a furious comeback from the Vernon squad.

The Maroons managed to close within five points late in the second half, trailing 27-22, before South Kamloops sealed the 39-22 win with two late tries and a conversion.

Entering the game, Clarence Fulton was the ninth-ranked AA senior boys’ rugby squad in the province, while South Kamloops was not among the top 12-ranked teams.
