In a regular-season, game-of-the-year candidate, Logan Stankoven registered his hat-trick goal in overtime to push the Kamloops Blazers to a 6-5 comeback victory over the Tri-City Americans of Kennewick, Wash, on Saturday at Sandman Centre.

Tri-City led 5-3 with less than five minutes remaining in the third period, but the visitors got into penalty trouble and Kamloops capitalized with two goals on the power play.

Recent acquisition Olen Zellweger tallied at 15:44 on a two-man advantage and Stankoven notched the tying goal on the power play at 16:47, the markers forcing an extra session in front of 5,129 fans on Mark Recchi Way.

Zellweger and Caedan Bankier provided assists on the reigning CHL player of the year’s OT winner.

Dylan Sydor and Fraser Minten also scored for the Blazers in support of Matthew Kieper, who stopped 32 shots to pick up the victory between the pipes.

Ethan Ernst (2), Lukas Dragicevic, Ethan Peters and Adam Mechura tallied for the Americans in support of goaltender Nick Avakyan, who stopped 45 shots in a losing effort.

Kamloops (26-9-4-2) is five points behind the Portland Winterhawks (30-8-2-1) and eight points in arrears of the Western Conference-leading Seattle Thunderbirds (32-7-1-1).

The Americans (20-16-4-1) are tied for fourth in Western Conference standings.

Kamloops will be in action next on Friday against the hometown Victoria Royals (12-27-4-1).
