The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to the visiting MacEwan Griffins of Edmonton on Friday at Warner Rentals Field at Hillside Stadium.
The game was the women’s squad’s season home opener.
The Griffins were led by Suekiana Choucair, who had two goals in the second half as MacEwan scored three times in that 45 minute span.
The WolfPack fell to 0-2-1 on the season, while MacEwan improved to 2-0-1.
The Griffins had 33 shots in the contest, with 11 on the goal. TRU had four shots, with four reaching the MacEwan goal.
McEwan went up 2-0 in the 58th minute as Choucair capitalized on a TRU turnover at midfield. She turned on the jets and launched it past Robertson. In the 64th minute, Choucair was hauled down in the box and was awarded a penalty kick, which she converted.
The Griffins had five corner kicks (four in the second half) to TRU's one, which came in the second half.
TRU continues its homestand on Saturday when the Alberta Pandas come to town for a 5:30 p.m. game after defeating UBC Okanagan in Kelowna on Friday by a 2-0 margin.
Alumni weekend continues with Saturday being Family Day, featuring bouncy castles and other games for children.
In addition, the WolfPack have invited students, teachers, support staff and their families of Parkcrest elementary to attend the game for free. Parkcrest was destroyed by fire on Sept. 5.
• Meanwhile, the WolfPack men’s soccer team tied the visiting Saskatchewan Huskies 2-2 in the game following the women’s match on Friday night.
Daniel Sagno and James Fraser scored for TRU, while Kwame Opoku-Addai and Jacob Powell replied for Saskatchewan.
The Huskies outshot the WolfPack 14-11 with both teams having three shots on goal.
The WolfPack men will host the MacEwan Griffins on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Hillside Stadium.
